The Attex Chief was a six-wheel-drive amphibious all-terrain vehicle of the early 1970s, in the same small-ATV class as the Argo. The archive's example is a 1974 Attex 400 Chief that was sold restored on eBay in 2004.

Design

The vehicle has a watertight tub body on six low-pressure tyres. A 400 cc two-cylinder, two-stroke Rockwell JLO engine drives the wheels through a Borg-Warner T20 transmission, with chains and sprockets carrying power to the axles on each side. Steering works by braking or reversing one side. The original forward/reverse control was a single lever, which the seller had changed to two independent levers so that each side could run in opposite directions for turns on the spot. The seller said the restored machine would reach about 35 mph (56 km/h). A windscreen and cab parts were available as accessories.

Electric conversion

A sub-folder has photographs of an Attex six-wheeler converted to electric power. The archive gives no further details about it.
