The Goer is a family of large amphibious military trucks built by Caterpillar, including the M520 cargo version. The archive holds pictures of cargo, fuel-tanker and wrecker versions, along with several surplus examples offered for sale in the United States.
Examples
A 1974 amphibious fuel truck sold on eBay in 2003 had a Caterpillar D333C turbo diesel and an Allison automatic transmission. It was about 9.45 m (31 ft) long, 2.74 m (9 ft) wide and 2.9 m (9 ft 6 in) high, on a 6.0 m wheelbase with 8.00-33 tyres, and had a front winch. The seller said the whole truck was built of stainless steel.
A 1978 Caterpillar-built amphibian with a 3406 turbo diesel was advertised by a US dealer as able to carry 8 tons of cargo in its cargo bay while afloat.
History
A French correspondent sent the archive a photograph of a Goer carrying a Nike-Hercules missile for testing, around 1965. Another reader supplied a picture of an M520 Goer swimming.
