This GMC amphibious camper is a conversion of a 1967 GMC day van, said to have been built in north-east England. Nothing more is known of its history; it was offered for sale as a restoration project.

Design

A Perkins diesel engine mounted in the middle of the vehicle drives the rear axle through a three-speed gearbox, so it has two-wheel drive only. A waterjet unit is driven off the front of the engine through a separate gearbox. According to the seller, there was no seal where the propeller shaft passes through the hull, and it was not known whether the vehicle had ever been in the water. It had been road-legal (MOT'd) some years earlier and was driven about 100 miles without trouble, but needed some welding.

The archive photographs show the bow, stern, engine, drive shaft, control box, waterjet and interior.
