The Hill Head tracked boat is a one-off amphibious boat built from scratch by its owner at Hill Head, where it is launched from a shingle beach.
Design and use
According to a forum post saved in the archive, the boat has caterpillar tracks that retract into the hull once afloat. The tracks let it climb up and down the steep shingle on its own, something the writer says a Sealegs had been shown unable to do. Where the writer previously needed a Land Rover and winch to launch a Zodiac 550, this boat needs no help at all. The owner keeps it in his garden and can get in and out of the water at both high and low tide within minutes.
