Land Shark was a British amphibious-car venture led by David Baker of Land Shark Ltd, set up to attempt a world record. The archive holds a July 2000 update email that Baker sent to supporters, including Hans Rosloot.
History
In the email Baker announced that Land Shark would have a stand at that year's motor show at the NEC, held from 18 to 29 October. Lotus had agreed to build a display prototype at its Coventry research and development centre, and that work also served as the first design stage of the record project itself. The 20 square metre stand, in the same hall as Lotus, was to show the Shark sitting on a mock desert island with a palm tree and deckchair.
Baker saw the show as a cheaper way to attract sponsors for a record attempt planned for the following year than trying to raise the much larger sum needed to start the project outright. He also noted that the project's first official press release had appeared on the online edition of Autocar.
The archive does not record whether the record attempt went ahead, and it contains no technical details or photographs.
