An AP wirephoto of February 1968 shows the KID, an off-road utility vehicle developed by LTV Aerospace Corp., on test at Fort Polk, Louisiana. According to the caption it could carry a 1,000-pound (about 450 kg) load across rugged terrain, swamps and water barriers. It was due to make its first Southeast Asian appearance that month at the US Trade Center in Bangkok, Thailand. LTV said it could be adapted for many commercial and military uses. The photo shows a flat, slab-sided, low hull with a slatted cargo rack and a driver seated at the front.
