The Rhino was an amphibious marsh vehicle built in 1954 by the Marmon-Herrington Company of Indianapolis. It was made of aluminium, had four-wheel drive with steering on the rear wheels, and was driven in the water by a jet mounted between the rear wheels.
It had a 110 hp diesel engine that used about 20 litres per 100 km. The top road speed was 72 km/h, although drivers were not allowed to exceed 40 km/h; in the water it made around 8 km/h. It weighed 5 tonnes and measured 5.7 m long, 2.85 m wide and 2.95 m high. Its unusual wheels were said to make it almost impossible to tip over, even on a 75% side slope.
