The VW 'Seegolf' was built in 1984 by Prof. Dr. Fiala of the Volkswagen Research Centre, according to René Pohl. It was not watertight itself but floated on attached pontoons, which could be moved over the top of the car for road use. A propeller on a long shaft was lowered into the water. The car had a 150 PS engine and was said to perform well afloat. Pohl distinguished it from a Golf body mounted on a boat hull near Munich, which could only be used on water.
