The ZIL-135P was an experimental eight-wheeled amphibious truck built by the ZIL special design bureau in February 1965. It used the running gear of the ZIL-135K. It was designed to leave a transport ship in seas up to force 5 and bring up to 5 tonnes of cargo ashore.

Design

Its buoyant body was made of glassfibre, the first time this was done for such a vehicle. It was shaped by the Krylov Central Research Institute, and its hydrodynamics were exceptionally good. Two propellers in steerable nozzles, retracted for land driving, pushed it to 16.4 km/h in sea conditions. The source calls this a record for displacement-hull wheeled vehicles, with a propulsive efficiency of 0.48 against 0.18-0.24 for foreign amphibians. On land it reached 65 km/h. A forum post gives two Ural-375 V8 petrol engines of 180 hp each, a length of 9.27 m, a width of 2.80 m and a weight of about 11.6 tonnes.

Two were built. The ZIL-135P passed all its trials but was never adopted or put into series production.
