The Ferret scout car was made amphibious by adding a collapsible flotation screen around the hull. The archive covers both an experimental floating Mark 1 and the later big-wheeled Mark 4.
FV701J Mark 1/3
The FV701J, designated "Car, Scout, 4x4, Floating" and also known as the Mark 1/1 floating, was an experimental amphibious version of the Ferret Mk 1. A completely new wing line was built right around the vehicle, and a screen of the camera-bellows type was mounted on it. The screen could be raised or lowered very quickly, and clear vision panels in the front allowed the driver to see on land and in the water. New watertight stowage lockers were fitted. In the water it was propelled only by its road wheels.
Mark 4
The archive also holds a sale note for a 1960 Ferret Mark 4, described as a rare big-wheel amphibious model, fitted with a new Rolls-Royce B60 engine and sold with manuals and spares.
Other material
