The Gibbs Phibian was presented by Gibbs as the largest wheeled High Speed Amphibian (HSA) ever created. It combines highway speeds on land with more than 48 km/h (30 mph) on water, and was intended as a platform for first responders, rescue and other amphibious tasks.
Design
Twin turbo-diesel engines with a combined 500 hp drive the wheels on land and twin water jets afloat. On land it runs in front- or rear-wheel drive with selectable four-wheel drive, on coil springs and dampers, with power-assisted hydraulic steering and hydraulic disc brakes. It is about 9.2 m long, 2.5 m wide and 3.65 m high, with a 6.3 m wheelbase, 30 and 28 degree approach and departure angles and 275/80R20 tyres. It carries three crew and twelve passengers, or 1,500 kg of cargo.
