The Glas/BMW off-road prototype began as an off-road vehicle built at Glas. After BMW took over Glas in 1966, BMW continued developing it and fitted the four-cylinder engine of the BMW 2000 and 2002, placed between the front seats.
The vehicle reportedly climbed gradients of more than 55 per cent and reached 95-110 km/h, and it weighed 2,050 kg. Its self-supporting tub body made it buoyant, and the interior offered 2.5 square metres of floor space.

In 1971 Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm built a similar floating off-road prototype, described in a separate record.
