The MBB off-road prototype of 1971 was built by Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm along similar lines to the earlier Glas/BMW floating off-road vehicle. Like the Bayer K 67 sports car, on which MBB had also worked, it had a plastic floor tub. Unlike the Glas vehicle, which carried its engine between the front seats, the MBB design had its engine at the rear: a 2-litre industrial or marine engine of 90 PS. Weight fell to 1,600 kg, and the vehicle was said to float even when its tub was full of water.
