The Orion amphibious camper was a 1968 prototype designed by Dr. Freise. It combined a modified Volkswagen van chassis with an adapted Suleica G500 caravan body. It had a new front with the round headlamps of the Tempo Matador, a boat-shaped underside and a fixed propeller at the rear.
Like Howard Hughes's 'Spruce Goose', the club history notes, it made a single demonstration trip through a harbour and was then forgotten. The prototype still exists and can still be seen on the road, though without its water drive.
