The SAM was a four-wheel-drive amphibious vehicle built in 2003 as a prototype for the Polish Army, intended also for disaster relief and water rescue: the idea was that it could cover most of the journey to an incident by road, reaching the scene faster than a boat. It is known from 2004 eBay listings placed in Germany on behalf of its owner.
It was powered by a 2-litre, 120 hp Fiat engine with automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, a low-range transfer box and two locking differentials. A mechanical winch of about 6 tonnes, driven from the gearbox, allowed recovery of other vehicles or self-recovery. In the water a single propeller drove it and two rudders steered it; a bilge pump was fitted, and a smoke-generating system could envelop the vehicle in about a minute. It seated two or three, carried up to about 300 kg in its load area, and reached about 90 km/h on the road and 10 km/h afloat. The seller reported that it swam very well and was excellent off road, and that it had covered only 1,500 km.
