The Seiga is a six-wheeled amphibious 'go-anywhere' vehicle used for harvesting reed for thatching. The archive has two sources on it: a 2004 email from a Hungarian reed harvesting business describing a working six-wheeled Seiga reed harvester, and a web page of the Tayreed Company in Perthshire, Scotland, a supplier of thatching reed and reed products.
Tayreed hired out its Seiga low-ground-pressure vehicles outside the harvesting season for work on sensitive ground, such as geophysical surveys, shore-approach work, oil exploration, construction, river-bank maintenance, oil-pollution control, land reclamation, pipe laying, electrification schemes and river weed clearance. The vehicles exert less than 1.5 psi (about 0.1 kg/cm2) on the ground when loaded, have deck areas from 13 by 10 ft, and carry 1 to 2.5 tonnes depending on conditions.
