Specifications need checking. Some figures here were taken from the archive and have not been confirmed against a source.

The Schwimm-RSO was an amphibious, fully tracked vehicle derived from the Steyr-470 RSO/01, the Raupenschlepper Ost built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Steyr, Austria. It dates from 1943, or possibly 1942, and is listed among Steyr's prototypes.

Background

The RSO was a tracked tractor developed in 1942, alongside the wheeled Radschlepper Ost, for the snow and mud of the Eastern Front. It was powered by an 85 hp V8 engine, which one source attributes to Ferdinand Porsche, and about 2,600 were built by Steyr in 1942-1943. The amphibious version took this basic vehicle and adapted it to swim.

No technical details specific to the amphibious version are recorded in the archive.
