The Tycon AMLUV (Amphibious Moving Leg Utility Vehicle) Mark II is an all-wheel-drive, articulated, amphibious all-terrain vehicle built by Tycon Industries Ltd.
Design
It consists of two watertight, buoyant hulls joined by an articulating joint. Each hull carries a pair of hydraulically operated legs with a powered wheel at the end of each. Steering on land and in the water is by articulation, which also keeps all wheels on the ground for better traction and less damage to the surface. Because the legs can move, the vehicle can vary its wheelbase, ground clearance and centre of gravity, level itself, switch into amphibious mode and even 'walk' over obstacles. It was conceived as a delivery system and work platform carrying detachable modules for different tasks.
Use
The makers aimed it at the gap between small recreational vehicles and large industrial load carriers. Suggested roles included oil-spill containment in muskeg, ice and coastal conditions; flood and earthquake response; construction and inspection of dams, canals and wetland habitat; forestry and fire fighting; resource exploration; pipeline and power-line work; film camera platforms; and military and police use.
