The ALTKAM-2992, also known as the Altkam Stalker, is a Russian amphibious off-road car whose body was designed, and prototype built, by the firm Autodesign of Naberezhnye Chelny in Tatarstan. In 2002 the firm told the archive that the Moscow company Anthon-Impulse was preparing to manufacture it. The vehicle received a diploma from the Union of Designers of Russia at the fifth Moscow International Motor Show in 2001.

Design

The ALTKAM-2992 is intended for all-weather transport of people and cargo in remote areas: boggy tundra, deep snow, desert sand and ordinary roads, with the ability to swim across water obstacles. Wide low-pressure tyres keep ground pressure low so that it can travel without damaging the topsoil.

It has four-wheel drive and a fibreglass body, and is powered by a 1.5 litre VAZ-21083 engine producing 52.6 kW (71.5 hp). Two versions were listed: a passenger model seating five (or seven) and a passenger-and-cargo model seating three with 425 kg of luggage. Kerb weight is 1,350 kg and gross weight 2,000 kg; it is 4.8 m long, 2.54 m wide across the tyres and 2.1 m high, with a 3.0 m wheelbase and 37 cm ground clearance. Top speed is 80 km/h on land and about 7 km/h in water, and it can tow a trailer of up to 600 kg.

Suggested uses included tourism, hunting and fishing, transport in remote regions, and medical and rescue work during floods and natural disasters.

Later developments

Autodesign was also working on an improved successor, the Stalker-2 ('Siberian'). A correspondent reported plans to build 300 vehicles in 2003 and 500 in 2004.
