The JMC Isuzu amphi-pickup was an amphibious pickup developed by JMC Amphibious Vehicle Development Co. of Nanchang, Jiangxi province, under chief designer Luo Guangyu, who had earlier designed the Baiyun amphibian. It is based on the chassis of a JMC-built Isuzu 4x4 pickup.
Design
The makers designed their own additional transfer case, which divides the engine's output between road and water drive. Power came from an Isuzu diesel; the archive includes photos of the gearbox used with the normally aspirated engine, which is smaller than the one used with the turbo engine. The pickup was available only with left-hand drive.
History
In early 2003 the design received its final improvements and underwent extended testing before going on sale. Later that year the makers sent photos of the pickup crossing sand during a vehicle-rescue mission on an island in a river near their Nanchang base, and mentioned an improved version designed for search-and-rescue organisations in Vietnam. The vehicle was sold in Australia and New Zealand through the agent Oz Amphibian, and the archive owner ordered one in 2003.
