La Sirène de la Baie ("the mermaid of the bay") is a large amphibious passenger vessel built by HUS in 1986. It carries up to 150 passengers, and its eight driven wheels let it leave and enter the water under its own power.
Design
The vessel is 26.5 m long and 5.8 m wide and draws only 75 cm. Its eight wheels are hydraulically driven and can be disengaged when afloat. Inside there is an 18 m saloon with a bar and two toilets, with 1.62 m of headroom below deck. Two aluminium gangways are carried for boarding. It is rated for estuary and river work in up to wind force 4 and sea state 3, and for coastal navigation.
