The Trekol (or Trecol, from 'transport' plus 'ecology') is a Russian all-terrain vehicle. It rides on six very large tubeless tyres inflated to about 4 psi, which let it cross marsh, sand and snow without sinking in or rutting the ground. The vehicle also floats. Its glassfibre body has a two-door cab with a roof hatch and a rear saloon with a two-leaf rear door, seating eight in all (four plus four). The body is said to cope with temperatures from minus 60 to plus 60 °C, and the Trekol is road legal and popular in Siberia.

Design

The Trekol uses leaf-spring suspension and Lada mechanical parts. The mid-mounted engine is either a VAZ-21083 1.5-litre four of 68 hp or a VAZ-21213 1.7-litre four of 80 hp, driving through a five-speed gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. Drive is normally to four of the six wheels, with the rear axle engaged for full six-wheel drive, and the differential can be locked. The vehicle is about 5.0 m long and 2.5 m wide, with 50 cm of ground clearance. It weighs about 2,000 kg empty and 2,800 kg loaded, and reaches about 60 km/h on land.
